Job Description Job Description Assistant Vice President (AVP),
Tax Services – Healthcare Overview The Assistant Vice President of
Tax Services is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing
all tax-related functions for a healthcare organization, including
income, sales and use, property, payroll, and for-profit tax
compliance. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and
local tax laws while supporting strategic initiatives,
transactions, and operational growth in a highly regulated
healthcare environment. Key ResponsibilitiesTax Leadership &
Strategy Lead and manage the organization's tax strategy across all
healthcare entities, including nonprofit and for-profit structures
Advise executive leadership on tax implications of mergers,
acquisitions, joint ventures, affiliations, and service line
expansions Partner with finance, legal, and operations teams to
support strategic planning and organizational initiatives
Compliance & Reporting Oversee preparation, review, and filing of
all tax returns, including: Federal and state income tax returns
IRS Form 990 and related nonprofit filings Sales and use tax,
property tax, and gross receipts tax filings Payroll and
employment-related tax compliance Ensure compliance with IRS
regulations, state and local tax laws, and healthcare-specific tax
requirements Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting
healthcare taxation and assess organizational impact Risk
Management & Audit Support Manage tax audits, examinations, and
inquiries from taxing authorities Develop and maintain internal
controls, policies, and procedures to mitigate tax risk Identify
and resolve tax exposures related to healthcare reimbursement,
exempt activities, and unrelated business income (UBI) Team
Leadership & Vendor Management Lead, mentor, and develop the tax
services team Oversee relationships with external advisors,
auditors, and tax consultants Drive continuous improvement through
process optimization and technology solutions Financial Integration
& Reporting Collaborate with accounting and finance teams on tax
provision, ASC 740, and financial statement disclosures Support
budgeting and forecasting processes related to tax liabilities and
benefits Ensure accurate tax-related data within financial systems
and reports QualificationsEducation & Credentials Bachelor's degree
in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required) Master's degree
in Taxation or Accounting (preferred) CPA or JD (strongly
preferred) Experience 10 years of progressive tax experience, with
significant exposure to healthcare organizations Prior leadership
or management experience in tax or finance Strong understanding of
nonprofit healthcare taxation, including Form 990, tax-exempt
status, and UBI Skills & Competencies Deep knowledge of federal,
state, and local tax regulations impacting healthcare Strong
analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills
Excellent communication skills with the ability to advise senior
executives Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex,
cross-functional initiatives Working Environment Hybrid or onsite
role within a healthcare system, hospital network, or healthcare
services organization Occasional travel may be required for audits,
meetings, or system-wide initiatives
